2nd Annual Kite Festival April 25, 2026 10am – 4pm

Join the Coxhall Guild for a free Kite Festival.

Whether you build a kite from scratch or bring your own, every age from toddler to grandparent can share in the joy of flying a kite! Colorful kites of all sizes and shapes will be flying high over the  grounds of Coxhall Gardens. Guild volunteers will help the first 300 guests build a simple sled kite between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm. We will also have premade kites ready for decoration while supplies last.

Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. We will have entertaining  programs, concessions and vendor booths with items available for  purchase. HKS members from around the region will also fly a wide variety of kites in a professional kite flying demonstration.

Explore the world of kite making

    1. Winds of 5 to 25 mph is ideal.
    2. Face away from the wind.
    3. Hold your kite by the bridle (the two strings attached to your kite and the kite line) and at eye level.
    4. Hold the kite until it begins to catch the wind and let out some line.
    5. Make sure the line is not slack, keep it slightly taught.
    6. If the wind is light, use a friend. Ask your friend to hold the kite in front of him 50 to 100 feet away from you.
    7. The moment the wind picks up, your friend should release the kite.
