We meet every Thursday from 9am–12pm from April through October to work at Coxhall Children’s Garden.
- We clean up beds in the early spring, which includes pruning.
- We plant annuals, perennials and shrubs in May.
- The quilt garden and native plants are installed in June.
- In July and August, we weed and maintain the gardens.
- We plant additional natives and fall annuals in September.
- In late October, we clean up the spent annuals, plant bulbs and fill boxes and the kaleidoscope for winter interest.
- In November, the quilt garden is designed and planned with the grower for the following year.
- In the “off season” we research plants and prepare plant orders for the following year. We recruit other Master Gardeners to help us at Coxhall. The leadership chairs meet, discuss objectives, and implement plans for the year.
- We also have continued education throughout the year, to keep up our certification.
Most importantly, we work closely with the management and staff at Coxhall, in cooperation with the Coxhall Guild to make meaningful updates to the gardens for the benefit of our community!
What can you do?
- Come on a Thursday morning to see the work that we do, and ask us questions about the plants.
- Add native plants to your landscapes. They require less watering, they improve our air quality, and they provide food and habitat for local wildlife.
- Ask us how you can become a Master Gardener and join our team!
